Notes:

300 WATER NYMPHS is a singular granite sculpture that pays homage to an ancient Greek concept of special female entities, the nymphs, that protect and comfort various aspects of water. A nymph is a mythological spirit of nature imagined as a beautiful maiden inhabiting the sea, rivers, woods, mountains, or other natural locations. The Greek word nymph originally meant 'bride', suggesting that the relationship between a nymph and the area of her influence was that of husband and wife. The 'nymph' or 'bride' was ideally a desirable woman of extreme beauty, a woman men might long for and with whom they could spend all their days.Water nymphs are associated with various locations of water such as the sea, rivers, dams, lakes, wells, streams and so on. Only the names of nymphs appear on the sculpture. The Belfast Black stone is selected from Frans Haarhoff’s farm Boschpoort, where a worked-out quarry contains thousands of granite stones, abandoned and littering the landscape. I derive a great deal of satisfaction when I eliminate some intrusive stones and in the process cause a degree of landfill and rehabilitation of the terrain. I rejoice in returning the mining wasteland to the way things were before its mess began, to be a landscape once more. Belfast Black granite is one of the most impervious stones. It is highly prized and its market value exceeds that of most other granite materials. In geological terms, Belfast Black is a black Gabbro from Mpumalanga. In the natural stone trade, Belfast Black is often simply called a Granite. Since the name gabbro is relatively unknown to the man in the street, all exporters, traders, and manufacturers of stone products conveniently refer to the material as ‘Belfast Black Granite’ or ‘Absolute Black Granite.’ Gabbro is a dark, coarse-grained plutonic rock of crystalline texture, consisting mainly of pyroxene, plagioclase feldspar, and often olivine. The town of Belfast is often advertised for its well-known black ‘granite,’ which is a highly valued product as it is the only known and purest ‘granite’ deposit in the world of its kind.

International Collectors Shipping Package

For collectors based outside South Africa who purchase regularly from Aspire Art’s auctions in South Africa, it does not make sense to ship artworks individually or per auction and pay shipping every time you buy another work. Consequently, we have developed a special collectors’ shipping package to assist in reducing shipping costs and the constant demands of logistics arrangements.

For buyers from outside South Africa, we will keep the artworks you have purchased in storage during the year and then ship all the works you have acquired during the year together, so the shipping costs are reduced. At the end of the annual period, we will source various quotes to get you the best price, and ship all your artworks to your desired address at once.

Aspire Art will arrange suitable storage during, and cost-effective shipping at the end, of the annual period.
