COLLECTOR'S NOTE

Zimbabwean born multi-disciplinary artist Gerald Machona is renowned for his thought-provoking sculptures, performances, photography and installations that explore themes of migration, identity, and consumerism. The most notable aspect of his work is his innovative use of currency – particularly decommissioned Zimbabwean dollars. Currently living and working in South Africa; Machona’s work not only makes social commentary of the experiences of the Zimbabwean diaspora, but often explores issues of transnationalism, social interaction, and xenophobia in South Africa.

Machona’s body of work has garnered international acclaim and has been showcased in prestigious galleries and exhibitions worldwide. In 2013 after attaining his master’s in fine arts at Rhodes University; Machona featured in Mail and Guardian’s 200 Young South African’s supplemental and was selected by Business Day and the Johannesburg Art Fair in 2011 as one of the top ten young African artists practicing in South Africa. The artist has participated in several prominent international exhibitions including the South African Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale in Italy, All the World’s Futures, in 2015 and at the 20th Biennale of Sydney, The Future is Already Here – it’s Just Not Evenly Distributed in 2016. Machona’s work has also appeared in exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum in New York, 2016 and at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town, 2019.

The cost for this will be for the Client’s account, with an additional Handling Fee of 15% charged on top of the Service Provider’s invoice.

Aspire Art provides inter-company transfer services for its Clients between Johannesburg and Cape Town branches. These are based on the size of the artwork(s), and charged as follows:

International Collectors Shipping Package

For collectors based outside South Africa who purchase regularly from Aspire Art’s auctions in South Africa, it does not make sense to ship artworks individually or per auction and pay shipping every time you buy another work. Consequently, we have developed a special collectors’ shipping package to assist in reducing shipping costs and the constant demands of logistics arrangements.

For buyers from outside South Africa, we will keep the artworks you have purchased in storage during the year and then ship all the works you have acquired during the year together, so the shipping costs are reduced. At the end of the annual period, we will source various quotes to get you the best price, and ship all your artworks to your desired address at once.

Aspire Art will arrange suitable storage during, and cost-effective shipping at the end, of the annual period.
