It’s the Right Time to Buy Art Online

Aspire Art Auctions is proud to announce the Autumn Collection, a Timed Online auction taking place from 13 to 20 April 2021. Welcoming the mellow, cool and calm of the new season, collectors are spoiled for choice with this premier, large-scale, timed, online-only sale which presents a wide range of contemporary art alongside more historic works, multiples and editions, photography, sculpture, ceramics and an impressive selection of signed art books for easy collecting – with a click!

Leading artists represented in the auction include Marlene Dumas, Jane Alexander and Walter Oltman together with contemporary voices like Zanele Muholi, Nandipha Mntambo, Athi-Patra Ruga, Blessing Ngobeni, Gerhard Marx, Nicholas Hlobo  and Nelson Makamo. Modern stalwarts include John Mohl and Edoardo Villa amongst others. Pieter Hugo, Mikhael Subotzky and Roger Ballen lead the photography selection while new media works by Wayne Barker, Ed Young, Usha Seejarim, Turiya Magadlela and international star Damien Hirst also feature.

The collection spotlights the rich history of South African and international printmaking and, with a comprehensive offering of works spanning the 1970s to the present, draws attention to the importance, collectability and investment potential inherent in prints and multiples. Look out for works by Cecil Skotnes, Lucky Sibiya, Wopko Jensma, Walter Battiss, Robert Hodgins and David Koloane, all of whom embraced this medium as integral parts of their careers. Today’s most renowned artists working in the medium like William Kentridge, Deborah Bell, Diane Victor, Sam Nhlengethwa, Anton Kannemeyer and Sandile Goje are also present.

A first to the local market, Editions: International Prints & Multiples is a special curated section featuring editioned works by 20th century art legends like Alexander Calder, Antoni Tàpies, Henry Moore, Savaldor Dali, Robert Motherwell, James Rosenquist, Ernest Trova, Richard Smith and Victor Vasarely, presenting a unique opportunity for collectors to acquire works by these sought-after, international artists. A highlight is a signed collector’s edition of David Hockney’s A Bigger Book from 2019—a majestic visual survey of the artist’s work over six decades.

Also of significance is a range of beautiful ceramics which includes works by Noria Mabasa, Josephine Ghesa, Hylton Nel and early works from the Ardmore Ceramic Studio.

With over 300 lots, the Timed Online auction comprises two separate sessions as well as I AM FUNDA, a charity auction running concurrently to raise funds for the FUNDA Arts Centre. Aspire is a proud partner of this initiative which seeks to save and restore the iconic community arts centre and encourage organisations to support arts education in townships as a deserving focus of social responsibility projects. Proceeds from the auction will directly benefit FUNDA and the artists who have generously donated works. Artists include; Nandipha Mntambo, Sam Nhlengethwa, Kemang Wa Lehulere, Tracey Rose, William Kentridge, Penny Siopis, Esther Mahlangu, Deborah Bell, Clive van den Berg, Bambo Sibiya, Karel Nel, Mohau Modisakeng and Zemba Luzamba.
