Aspire Art is delighted to have been entrusted with a Private Collection of African and International Contemporary art. This exciting single-owner sale comprises of 79 lots and includes important works by new and leading voices in African art.

Leading the auction are two superb large scale tapestries by famed South African artist Athi-Patra Ruga. Also included are daringly brash, wildly dissolute, expressionist canvases by Zimbabwean artist Wycliffe Mundopa (winner of the 2021 FNB Art Prize) and an impressive large-scale abstract work by Rwandan artist Serge Alain Nitegeka.

A highlight is conceptual artist Ed Young’s much-celebrated sculptural installation Hero -  a mesmerising rendition of the artist as superhero – or rather mildly dejected antihero.
Representative of Africa right now, in the present and indeed into the future, this vibrant contemporary collection will be on display at Aspire Art in Johannesburg from 9-22 June.
